Feature Comparison between ArchiCAD 9 to ArchiCAD 10

Modeling Freedom

Floor Plan Representation

1. Floor Plan Representation of Multi-Story Elements

In ArchiCAD 9, you need to put extra work into the correct representation of multi-story elements. For example, if you wish to place a two-story high Wall on Story 0 and Story 1, you will need to either place two separate Walls on each Story, or place it on one Story and create its correct Floor Plan representation on the other. Similar additional work is need in case Widows/Doors are placed into these multi-story Walls.
In ArchiCAD 10, the Floor Plan Representation of multi-story Elements is automatic in case of Walls, Columns, Beams, Roofs and Windows/Doors.

Floor Plan representation can be correctly defined using the Show on Story, Floor Plan Display and Show Projection fields of their respective Settings Dialog, plus using the Floor Plan Cut Plane Dialog.

2. Floor Plan display of Composite intersections

In ArchiCAD 9, you have a global setting for 3D Intersection Priority for all Walls in the Project File. Also, Floor Plan intersection of Composite Structures is performed according to a certain set of logic, which might not be adequate in all possible situations.
In ArchiCAD 10, every Wall instance may have its own Wall Priority number. Also, in case of Composite Structures, every Skin of a Composite Structure may have its own Skin Priority defined. This greatly enhances the Floor Plan representation possibilities of Composite Wall intersections because skins now intersect based on their Skin Priority number: Skins with greater Priority numbers will overlap Skins with smaller Priority numbers. Using this method, any kind of a Composite Wall intersection may be correctly represented in the Floor Plan window without having to resort to 2D “patchwork”.

3. Floor Plan and Section Attributes

In ArchiCAD 9, some Construction Elements have their Floor Plan and Section attributes distributed to two separate panels in their Setting Dialogs (e.g. Roofs, Slabs). Some element types (e.g. Walls, Columns) have them in one panel. In the Info Box, these attributes are listed separately in different Info Box panels.

In ArchiCAD 10, new Floor Plan and Section attributes were introduced. This was needed because of the greater design freedom these elements give. Therefore, the Floor Plan and Section Attributes panels were unified in the Settings Dialogs of Construction Elements, which increases its usability. Also, the Floor Plan and Section Attributes panel is available as a single panel from the Info Box.
