Feature Comparison between ArchiCAD 9 to ArchiCAD 10

Miscellaneous

File Management

1. Loading of complete Libraries

In ArchiCAD 9, if you wish to load a complete library (possibly even in such a way so that Library Parts in it are not modified), you can load an ArchiCAD Archive File (PLA File). Library Parts are then read directly from the PLA File.
In ArchiCAD 10, it is possible to create Library Container Files (LCF Files). They can store a complete hierarchy (library folder structure) of libraries (individual objects, whole folder structures, PLA files, other LCF files). When you are in the Library Manager Dialog, all the various Libraries and Library Objects that you select to be loaded with the Project – these can all be saved into a single file which preserves their exact hierarchy, and Library Parts will be loaded from the lowest levels within this Library Container File.

A Library Container File loads much faster than individual Libraries. It may load up to 2-3 times faster. For example, the standard ArchiCAD 10 Library will now come in a Library Container Files instead of a PLA file.
Library Container Files may be used by Library Part developers to distribute their whole Library in one file.

2. File compression

In ArchiCAD 9, you have to compress your ArchiCAD and PlotMaker files in order to make them small enough to speed up sending them in an e-mail, sending them through a local network, etc.
In ArchiCAD 10, file compression is an option you can choose when saving files. It is enabled by default, enabling you to deal with much smaller Project File sizes.
