Feature Comparison between ArchiCAD 9 to ArchiCAD 10
Modeling Freedom
Geometry
1. Slanted, Double-slanted and Complex Walls; Complex and Slanted Columns; Complex and Slanted Beams
In ArchiCAD 9, Slanted, Double-slanted Walls can be created only by using SEO operations or Roof Cuts on the Wall. Complex Walls (Walls having a custom Profile) can be created only by using SEO operations on the Wall. In these cases, the Floor Plan View of the Wall might not be the desired result, needing 2D “patchwork”. It is also possible to use GDL objects to create such Walls, but those GDL Walls can not contain Windows/Doors, nor do they intersect in 2D, and they are not listed as Walls. The 3D intersection of such elements is not automatic either. The same is true for Slanted or Complex Columns and Slanted (Inclined) or Complex Beams.
In ArchiCAD 10, such Walls can be created with the Wall Tool by using the appropriate Wall Complexity button in the Settings Dialog. Slanted, Double-slanted and Complex Walls all intersect correctly with any other Wall type in 2D and 3D, they are displayed correctly in 2D, they can contain Windows/Doors a and are listed as Walls with their surface, volume etc. correctly calculated.
3D intersections of all these types of elements are handled correctly by the program.
In ArchiCAD 9, 3D Intersection Priorities are set globally for all Walls in the Project Preferences Dialog. In ArchiCAD 10, you can set 3D Intersection Priority for each individual Wall. So you will find that the 3D Intersection Priorities for Walls against Beams slider is removed from the Project Preferences Dialog.
2. Wall Openings in Polygonal Walls
In ArchiCAD 9, it is not possible to create Windows/Doors in Polygonal Walls. If you still need to do this, one way is to cut the desired shaped from the Polygonal Wall using Solid Element Operations. Then place a small Wall piece into this hole, and place a Window/Door into it.
In ArchiCAD 10, Windows/Doors or Openings may be directly placed into Polygonal Walls using their respective Tools. Once they are placed into the Wall, these Windows/Doors can be freely relocated and manipulated (dragged, rotated, mirrored etc.)
The surface and volume calculations of these Polygonal Walls will reflect changes made to them by these placed Windows/Doors.
