How to convert Interactive Schedule objects

Interactive Schedules are handled differently in ArchiCAD 9 and ArchiCAD 10.
In the former version, you create an Interactive Schedule, place the Schedule Element in a Window (Floor Plan, Section/Elevation Window etc.), then create a View of if, then import this View onto a PlotMaker 9 Layout.
In ArchiCAD 10, an Interactive Schedule can be generated, and then it can be placed directly onto a Layout. An Interactive Schedule is part of the Project Map just as any Story is part of the Project. It is also possible to create a View of an Interactive Schedule and place that View onto a Layout.

There are two possible routes you may take.

The first route should be taken if you do not wish to update the ArchiCAD/PlotMaker 9 Interactive Schedule in ArchiCAD 10. In such a case you do not need to re-link its Drawing to any Interactive Schedule, after you imported the Layout Book into ArchiCAD 10. The Drawing showing Interactive Schedule data in PlotMaker 9 will come through correctly to ArchiCAD 10, and it will remain linked to the original ArchiCAD 9 Project File from which the View containing the Interactive Schedule originally came.

However, in such a case, it is possible that you modify the original external source ArchiCAD 9 Project File. In such a case, the Drawing of the Interactive Schedule may get updated inadvertently. To avoid this, you can either make sure the Update Type of the Drawing is Manual (it usually is after migrating the Layout Book to ArchiCAD 10) in the Drawing Settings Dialog (in which case it is still possible to accidentally update it),

or you can select the Drawing in the Drawing Manager, and make the Drawing embedded by applying the Break Link button to it. This way you can make sure that Drawing data will remain unmodified in the future.

The second route is to re-link the Drawing containing the Schedule in ArchiCAD 10. This should be chosen, of course, in case you wish to get updated schedule data after modifying the Project File in ArchiCAD 10. You need to create the Element Schedule in that ArchiCAD 10 Project File where the migrated model data is located (in case the Model data coming from the ArchiCAD 9 PLN file and Layout Book coming from PlotMaker 9 are not located in the same Project File in ArchiCAD 10). In the Element Schedule Schemes Dialog, it is possible to import Interactive Schedule Settings created in ArchiCAD 9 using the Import... button in the Dialog.

The location of ArchiCAD 9 Interactive Schedule Settings files is the following:

C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Graphisoft\IS Settings

On the Mac, you can find it at the following location:

<SYSTEM>:Users:<USER>:Library:Preferences:Graphisoft:IS Settings

You can import any of these file into ArchiCAD 10.

With the help of this feature, you do not need to recreate the Scheme in ArchiCAD 10, but you can simply generate the imported Scheme.
In the Drawing Manager, if you link the Drawing to an internal source, that source may only be a View. So, after the Schedule is generated, you can do one of two things:

  1. Delete the Drawing of the ArchiCAD 9 Interactive Schedule from the Layout and place the ArchiCAD 10 Schedule instead.

  2. Create a View of the Schedule in the Navigator of ArchiCAD 10. Then, in the Drawing Manager, choose the existing Drawing of the Schedule and re-link it to this new View.

After this step, the Interactive Schedule may be used and will update correctly in ArchiCAD 10.

Do note, however, that it is quite common to have a placed schedule in ArchiCAD 9 or 8.1 that has custom settings, that is, the schedule settings do not correspond to any *.iss file on the file system. This happens in earlier versions when you select a placed schedule and modify its settings. Those settings are saved with the placed schedule object, and so cannot be directly imported into ArchiCAD 10 as described above. When you open the List Preview or Schedule Settings dialogs for such a schedule, for example to update or modify it, the Schedule Settings field will read "Last selected object", rather than the name of an actual schedule.

In this special case, you must create a schedule settings file (*.iss) on the file system that contains the customized settings for the placed schedule, and then import that file into your 10 project. To create this file, select your placed schedule in the prior version of ArchiCAD and then open the Schedule Settings dialog. Click the "Duplicate" button and provide the name you wish to give to these settings. That's it. You've just created a matching *.iss file in the default schedule settings folder, all ready to import into ArchiCAD 10.
