BIMx Model Transfer Service for Software Services Agreement Users

The BIMx Model Transfer Service is a new “cloud-service” offered to BIMx users with an active Software Services Agreement. Qualified users are entitled to 1 GB of cloud storage space for every commercial BIMx license they own for the duration of the Software Services Agreement. Clients who wish to utilize the service will need to register on the BIMx Community site as Premium Users.

The options below, available with BIMx Model Transfer Service, provide a way for Premium Users to control access to their BIMx model portfolio.


Three levels of model access are available to Premium Users:

  • Public Sharing : Models automatically appear on the Facebook community site.

  • Private Sharing/ Hidden: Models will not appear publicly, but are accessible without restriction via the direct URL associated with the model.

  • Private Sharing/ Protected: Models will not appear publicly and are not accessible without the direct model URL and password set during the upload process – each model can have its own password.



Registration


To activate BIMx Model Transfer Service please follow the steps below:

Step 1: Register for the BIMx Community Site

If you have an existing account for the BIMx Community Site, skip to step 2. External authenticators are supported by the system, therefore, GRAPHISOFT, Gmail and Facebook accounts can be used to register.


To register for https://gsbimx.com/ site:

  1. Run your BIMx for ArchiCAD application.
  2. Press the Escape key to access the BIMx menus.
  3. Select File/ "Share with BIMx Community" to open the Share BIMx Model dialog box.
  4. Click on Site Access button, then on the "Register" link to open the BIMx registration site in a browser.

Step 2: Scan Keyplugs

During the registration process, or when you are logged into the BIMx Community site, plug in your hardware protection key and click on the ’’Scan keyplugs’’ button. Your license type and key number will be automatically recognized.

Step 3: Access Your New Account

Click "Register" to receive a registration confirmation e-mail. Your account and BIMx registration number can be accessed by clicking on the confirmation link in the email.

/!\ This registration number has to be copied to your BIMx desktop application:

  1. Run the BIMx for ArchiCAD application.
  2. Press the Escape key to access the BIMx menus.
  3. Select File/ "Share with BIMx Community" to open the Share BIMx Model dialog box.
  4. Click on the License button, enter the registration code you received via email and click OK.

  • If you have a network key in your office, the CAD Manager should create an account. Pair the network key to the registration, and the CAD Manager can give the BIMx registration number to all users in the office. Anyone who uses this registration number with their own BIMx application can upload models to the account associated with registration number. Note: The account can only be edited by the CAD Manager.
  • If you have several keys in your office with SSA and BIMx pair one of the keys with the office account. GRAPHISOFT will add all other keys and storage space to the account within 24 hours.
  • Registration is not possible with a borrowed license key.


Access Your Account


Once registered, you can access your account by visiting https://gsbimx.com/ and clicking on "Log On to my premium account."

File Upload and Management


Each BIMx license with active Software Services Agreement has 1 GB private storage space and 100 MB public storage space. Models can be moved between public and private storage.

Note: An expired Software Services Agreement must renewed within 3 months. During this period the user have access to their 1 GB of model storage. If the user fails to renew the Software Services Agreement by the end of the 3-month grace period, their private models will be deleted. Prior to file removal, the user will receive email notifications.


After the logon to your Premium Account site, you can access the details of your Profile (expiration date, public and private quota, keyplug info) and the Models page.
Here you can also manage the uploaded content: organise the model files into separate folders, protect them with password or send the selected model's direct link to your colleagues or clients.

Uploading BIMx Models


Using the BIMx Site

Save the BIMx model in bimx format to upload to your Premium Account.

  1. Go to https://gsbimx.com.

  2. Log on to your Premium Account.
  3. Go to Models page and add the new project to the selected folder by clicking on the plus icon.

From the BIMx Desktop Application

  1. In BIMx press the ESCAPE key to access the BIMx menus.
  2. Click the File menu and choose "Share with BIMx Community" to open the Share BIMx Model dialog box
  3. Provide your license number you received when registering. Check the box labelled "This is a Private Computer..." to save the license number.
  4. Click OK to return to the Share BIMx Model dialog box.
  5. Click Share.

File Sharing


Each model uploaded using the BIMx Model Transfer Service is assigned a privacy level. This level can be set while uploading the file from BIMx desktop application or under the Premium User account page.

The three levels of privacy are:

  • Public
  • Hidden
  • Private (password protected)

Public sharing

Your uploaded 3D building models appear in the 3D model list on the Facebook BIMx Community Site automatically and can be downloaded by anyone.

Private sharing/ hidden

Models will not appear publicly, but are accessible without restriction to anyone who has access to its direct URL. Click on the "Send Direct Link" button to create an email containing the direct URL in your default email client. The recipient can access the protected model by opening the URL.

Private sharing/ password protected

A password needs to be provided to protect unauthorized access to the BIMx model. Each uploaded model can have its own password. Click on the "Send Direct Link" button to create an email containing the direct URL in your default email client. The recipient can access the protected model by opening the URL and entering the required password.

Note: The password can be changed on the service site by selecting the file and clicking "Edit Model Details."
