Font related slowdown on OS X Lion
GRAPHISOFT has identified a problem in Mac OSX Lion that causes slow 2D performance in ArchiCAD when creation font types are used in a project. The OSX update (10.7.2) fixed the problem for most fonts, while the problem still remains with some fonts. Below is a list of these:
AmericanTypewriter-Condensed
AmericanTypewriter-CondensedLight
AmericanTypewriter-CondensedBold
Baskerville-SemiBold
- Baskerville-Bold
Baskerville-SemiBoldItalic
Baskerville-BoldItalic
- Didot-Bold
- Georgia-Bold
Georgia-BoldItalic
NanumMyeongjoExtraBold
- NewPeninimMT-Bold
NewPeninimMT-BoldInclined
- TimesNewRomanPS-BoldMT
- TimesNewRomanPS-BoldItalicMT
- There may be other third party fonts causing slow-down.
- Univers 47 Condensed Light (there is an updated version of this font that works quite well)
Issue
Working in ArchiCAD 14 or 15 on Lion might be much slower than on Snow Leopard (zooming, panning and selecting elements) when any of the above fonts are used in the project. Note that this does not affect older ArchiCAD versions such as version 13.
Cause
Drawing of multi-line texts such in text fields and GDL parts are much slower on OSX 10.7 Lion. This mostly comes when the zoom is set to 50%+ and one of the previous default OS X fonts is used with Bold/Italic typefaces.
Solution
This problem has to be fixed in OSX Lion and has been fixed for most of the fonts after applying the latest OS patch - 10.7.2.
Workaround for the remained fonts:
Changing the typeface to Regular from Bold/Italic can be a relatively quick solution.
or set Options/Work Environment/Advance Redraw Options/Model Display in 2D Navigation to Structural Contours Only. With that the problematic texts won't be displayed during pan/zoom, will be only displayed only after finishing the command.
