Views
The possibility of manual rebuilding of section/elevations was introduced to increase performance. To be able to work faster, you may often want to use manual rebuilt section/elevations. Let’s see what are their main advantages and disadvantages in comparison with those of autorebuild section/elevations:

If you define several views on the same manual rebuild section/elevation you will probably define different layer combinations to the views.
When you go to one of the views and you want to make sure you see an up-to-date view you click Rebuild from Model. Now the view displays elements as expected according to the layer combo defined to the view. Now if you go to another view based on the same s/e you may be surprised: the view may miss some elements that should be displayed according to its layer combination. (Why? -> see Technical background below) You can only see the proper view if you click Rebuild from Model.
This is the way manual section/elevations work. It is intentional that they will not rebuild automatically because for some reasons you may also want to keep your s/e (and the views based on it) in an outdated status. If you want to see them always up-to-date without rebuilding it is better to keep them autorebuild.
problems when publishing:
This can cause problems when publishing since you have outdated views. Before you publish, you should set your section/elevation to autorebuild. After the publishing process you can set it back to manual to increase speed. If you have several manual rebuild s/e-s you probably do not want to set them to autorebuild and then back to manual one by one. You can set all of them to autorebuild (and back) at once this way:
double-click on one of the Sections-elevations in the Project Map -> the Section-elevation window will be activated
- select all Sections-elevations in the Project Map by clicking on them once while using Ctrl or Shift
right click -> Section/elevation Settings OR click on the Settings button at the bottom of the Navigator
- in the settings dialogue box you can set them ALL to autorebuild or manual rebuild or drawing whichever you like
- click OK
Technical background:
This happens because the section/elevation database contains only those elements that are on visible layers at the moment of the rebuild. So when you go from the first view to the second one, the layer combination will be switched but the elements that were on a hidden layer at the moment of the rebuild, will not be shown even if their layer is now visible, because they are not in the s/e database. Only a rebuild will update the database and will put the missing elements in the view.

Let’s see the relation of the section/elevations and the drawings:

When a drawing is updated either automatically or manuallly the program sincronizes its content with the content of its source view. If the view originates from a manual rebuild s/e and is outdated at the moment of the drawing update the content of the drawing will be outdated too inspite of the update. So before publishing make sure that your drawings are up-to-date by checking their source views.
