Curved Complex Walls in ArchiCAD 11
Curved Complex Walls is a feature available in ArchiCAD 11 and up. Its use is very simple and straightforward:
1. In the Wall Settings Dialog, set the Wall Complexity to Complex Wall.
2. Select the Complex Profile to be used for the Structure.
3. In the Wall Info Box, select the Curved Wall Geometry method.
4. Place the Wall.
5. Watch the result in 3D.
Note: if you want to create a curved wall whose Reference Line is a freeform curve (such as a Spline), you will need to use the Magic Wand method; see the description below.
Curved Complex Walls in ArchiCAD 10
In ArchiCAD 10, curved Complex Walls can be achieved by approximating the curve with linear segments. To do this, do the following steps:
1. In the Wall Settings Dialog, set the Wall Complexity to Complex Wall.
2. Select the Complex Profile to be used for the Structure.
3. On the Floor Plan, draw the Arc at the position of the Reference Line of the Complex Wall to be created.
4. In the Magic Wand Setting Dialog box (Options > Magic Wand Settings), set the resolution for the tracement of the Arc (e.g. Give Preference to: Linear Segments; Segments along Circles: 36)
5. Space-click the Arc (e.g. use the Magic Wand) to create the linear Complex Wall segments to approximate the curved Complex Wall.
6. Watch the result in 3D.
Note: In step 4, you should use the Linear Segments option because if the Best Match radio button is used and you use the Space-click to create the Wall, ArchiCAD will try to create a Wall type that can be created using the Best Match method. Since only non-complex Walls can be curved, it will switch to Vertical Wall Complexity and create a Vertical curved Wall (not a Complex Wall).
If the shape of the Reference Line of the Complex Wall is a freeform curve (such as a Spline), you will need to use the Magic Wand method even in ArchiCAD 11.
You only need to make sure to set the Magic Wand Settings to a value that provides the resolution you need.
