How to Arrange Drawings per the Layout Tree in ArchiCAD10?
TechTip of the Month winner of 2006 November - by JamesMurray, Bethesda - MD, USA
Viewing the natural order of the Layout Book can be achieved by setting the sort button to "blank" (not up or down) in Index Settings -> Fields -> Index Fields as displayed in the screenshot below:
To view the drawings in their "natural order" can be very helpful e.g. when making changes after reviewing a "cartoon set" of layouts - for instance when double checking layouts and drawings prior to sending them to a printing office. (The "natural order" of drawings is the order according to which the drawings are placed on each layout (can be seen eg in the Layout Book's tree). This can be different than if they are listed per their IDs.)
Follow the below simple steps to achieve this:
First open the Document>Project Indexes>Drawing List dialog.
In the top right corner of this dialog you can find a button Index Settings... - click on it.
In the Index Settings dialog, choose Drawing List (default list) or the list you have created and want to work with, then open the Fields / Drawing List section of the dialog.
Here in the right pane you can select which Index Fields could be used for listing of the drawings. Remove the ones you do not need (e.g. leave Name and ID; then select the line ID.
When highlighted, a button (switch) beside the ID field will appear. By clicking on it, you can choose either to list the drawings descending or ascending by their IDs. The third option (Blank) will then allow you to list them in their "natural order". Can be very helpful with many detail drawings dispersed over a gigantic layout book!.
Please note that the uppermost Index Field will be used for first rank listing, so it does matter which Index Field is the uppermost etc. You can move them easily by clicking on the black up/down arrow at the start of each line and dragging them to their desired location whilst holding down the mouse button. Enjoy!
