Using a different text color for no-associative dimensions
TechTip of the Month winner of 2006 May - by MarcCorney, Architect, Red Canoe Architecture, P. A.
"Maybe this will save someone else the time I just wasted. If/when your forced to resort to "custom text" instead of "measured value" for an associative dimension..... Change the text color in AC (to something like Red) ...so when you edit the model and the dimension doesn't change.... you'll know why. "
First of all it has to be noted, that the best practice suggests to avoid using custom dimension texts whenever possible.
There may be though some instances when using this is unavoidable. In these cases it is suggested to alter the colour of these dimension texts to a highly visible (e.g. red) colour that will call your attention to 'hot' dimension strings that need to be checked if they add up before handing out the drawings to your clients.
This will save you from quite some time and trouble later... simply select the dimension text you modified and change its colour.
Make sure to use the same colour sets in all your files in order to avoid confusion if copying from one file to another...
