TechTip of the Month Contest Winner of May 2005:
James Murray's tip on using the Magic Wand on Zone stamps!
"Since this works, it seems obvious, but if it didn't I wouldn't be surprised; lots of obvious stuff doesn't work.
You can magic-wand a zone stamp to place a Polygon using the geometry of the zone itself. It works even if the zone polygon is hidden, and saves you the trouble of finding an edge, since zone edges tend to coincide with lots of other stuff. Magic-wanding the middle of a room is often impractical due to interference of other lines.
Handy for finish-floor slabs, lower-the-ceiling-in-one-room slabs, floor material fills, etc. Just make sure your zones are updated first."
As simple as ABC:
- Select the Tool you want to follow the geometry of the zone with,
- Adjust the settings needed in its settings dialog,
- Go to the floor plan, and:
either activate the Magic Wand button in the Control Box (just to the right of the Suspend Gropus button);
- or simply hold down 'space' while clicking on the selected zone stamp (note that the Magic Wand's head has to turn black in both cases in order to make this method work).
A useful little trick that can make life so much easier...
